Audi is amongst the finest luxury car manufacturer but time and again it falls short when it comes to the exterior of certain models. In a case of the A6 model, it does not actually stand out of its competition. Having said that, Audi seems to be changing that by introducing a new design language to take things up a notch. All upcoming models of an A6 lineup, including 2017 Audi A6 Avant will sport a new visual design. As a matter of fact, this car is supposedly being designed alongside A7 and A8 models. This has been done to make sure that all three models stand out in the market. A lot of details for the upcoming A6 models will be shared with Prologue concept, which was revealed at previous LA auto show. The Avant model is expected to set the standards in wagon segment.
2017 Audi A6 Avant – Platform and Exterior Modifications
The 2017 Audi A6 Avant will be based on MLB Evo platform, which is also used by Audi e-tron model. With extensive use of materials like aluminum, high-strength steel, and carbon fiber, this new model will be comparatively lighter. Most of the exterior design elements of A6 Avant will be shared with sedan model. Both these models have identical front fascia with a hexagonal grille. Headlights are redesign with LED DRLs and LED graphics. The front also features large air intakes and contoured bonnet. The roof is flatter for offering better aerodynamics.
OLED taillights are a feature of the rear end and the bumper has a new integrated bumper. Two new exterior colors will be available for the upcoming model, Matador Red, and Gotland Green. Just like the sedan, Avant also offers 19-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can opt for Advance package, which adds 20-inch alloy wheels and Soho Brown color with gray highlights.
Interior Details of 2017 Audi A6 Avant
Changes included in 2017 Audi A6 Avant extend to the interior of this model as well. Apart from a different shape, a cabin of Avant will be similar to that of a sedan. New LED illumination is offered and Premium leather is offered as standard upholstery material. Sports seats are available and leather trim is used for the dashboard, shifter and door panels. Avant offers better leg space than a sedan, thanks to its additional length. Updated MMI infotainment system will be available with support for Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
2017 Audi A6 Avant – Powertrain Options
Audi is remaining silent on the engines that will be powering the A6 models. However, certain rumors suggest following engine options as a possibility:
- 3.0-liter V6 engine
- 4.0-liter V8 engine
The 4.0-liter V8 unit is being designed with Porsche. Other rumors suggest that a 4 cylinder engine with an electric motor will be offered as a hybrid drivetrain. Other details are yet to be known.
2017 Audi A6 Avant – Price and Availability
All upcoming models of Audi will be available in first quarter of 2017, except for A6 sedan, which arrives earlier. As far as pricing is concerned, a slight increase is expected. A likely starting price of approximately $50,000 is expected for 2017 Audi A6 Avant.
