Kia Forte Review, Price

When Kia was first launched onto the international motoring scene, they were really the bargain basement of motoring. Over the years they’ve changed their image somewhat and are continuing the trend. The 2017 Kia Forte shows how far the motor manufacturer has come.

The 2017 Kia Forte can stand proudly among its well-established competitors: VW Golf, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus. The German design defines the car’s budget price tag, with modern styling, a good range of trim options and a host of safety features. Initially, the range will consist of 3 models: the base LX; the S and EX at the top. All of these models will be available in hatchback and sedan. A coupe will join the range at a later stage.

2017 Kia Forte – Exterior Body Changes and Interior Cabin Design

While the 2017 Kia Forte has not undergone a major change in appearance, it has a distinctly new front end. The grille, front bumper, and headlights have a more modern appeal. Moving to the rear, one would hardly notice the minor changes that have been made. The tail lights have been reconfigured, though look basically the same. A set of reflectors has been added to the rear bumper. The S model sports 16 inches 10 spoke aluminum wheels, a deck spoiler, LED driving lights and a chrome tipped tailpipe.

Moving to the interior of the 2017 Kia Forte S, you’ll get black cloth upholstery with white stitch detailing and a leather-clad gearshift. There’s a 7-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard for the infotainment system. The interior is refreshingly modern and neat. For an extra $25,000 the Premium package offers the navigation system, sunroof, heated power seats and an upgraded center armrest.

All-round airbags are standard on all models as are most of the safety features found this class of car. Features include ABS, EBD, hill start assist, electronic stability control and tire pressure monitoring system. Lane, change warning is available as an option on the S. The range-topping EX model comes standard with leather seats, blind spot warning, collision warning and a whole range of features found in the most top of the range sedans.

2017 Kia Forte – Engine and Performance

The 1.8-liter engine found in earlier models has been replaced by a 4 cylinder 2.0-liter unit for all the models. The new engine is fitted with variable valve timing (VVT) on both inlet and exhaust valves. To increase efficiency, the engine makes use of the Atkinson cycle which makes for improved fuel combustion. The engine produces 147 hp and torque is 132 feet per inch.

The base model LX is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, while the S comes standard with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. There’s also an option of 1.6-liter turbo engine with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, however, Kia has not released details on this option yet. Specifications: 0-60mph – 8.7 sec; top speed – 122mph; fuel economy (city/highway) – 29/38 mpg estimate.
