There are sports cars, there are million-dollar sports cars and then there are American sports cars or rather modern muscle cars. For those who don’t have a pre-conceived prejudice against American muscle, well, there’s no way they won’t end up loving it. With European sports models beating them on-track, Chevy looks to get all serious this time out with a beast as bad as it gets a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. And this model is supposed to be an out-and-out sports/performance coupe without compromise.
2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 – Design and Modelling
With the ZL1 already available in showrooms, bringing back the Z/28 did seem like a long-shot. But Chevrolet wants to hit the waves while the winds still on its sail. Typically, a Camaro is a street car with absurdly above normal power specs. For buyers looking for a Chevy sports car, there’s always a Corvette waiting. But Chevy looks all set to bridge this gap.
To look at the situation from the market’s point of view, both these sports car have a heritage and tag-value. For those looking for Corvettes, there’s nothing that can make them buy Camaros instead and vice versa. But the reason Chevrolet is fuelling up with a Camaro which will simply be better than, say, 911 Carrera Turbo. And by better is not for affordability’s sake. They are looking to something which can beat a 911 straight up.
2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 – Main Power Production Unit
The biggest question is the engine for this upcoming model. The good news is – Chevy’s going for something special, something that will take a clear step ahead of the 650 hp ZL1. Inside sources say that the aim is to hit 750 hp and do a below 3.2 seconds 0 to 60 mph.
There are talks of Chevy assembling a whole new engine setup instead of just tuning running engines. And as a matter of fact, they have just the right setup to put under the hood of this would-be monster.
Industry experts and inside sources echo that this upcoming 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will come with the same small block engine design. Although they are divided on 5.5-liter V6 turbo and a 6.2-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine, achieving these power specs would require a supercharger and a 6.2-liter displacement.
The LT6 engine, the same one which will debut with the Corvette ZR1, looks up for the job. A supercharger with this setup will make sure that this 2018 Z/28 will reach the expected figures. DOHC, DI plus Port Injection, 4-valve setup and titanium connecting rods included, this engine can be titled as the LT6. But a big block engine with similar specs would obviously amp up torque outputs. In short, a 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 with outputs ranging in at 750 hp – this is the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 summed up.
2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 – Price and Expected Release Date
This model will be the most powerful and costliest one around too with figures expected to touch the $75,000 market. But that seems a bit too much to believe. And this is exactly what the 2018 Chevy Camaro Z/28 wants to be. Expected to release within 2018, stay tuned for more updates and info.
