The 2018 Ford GT is set to take its place as Ford’s flagship sports car. Debuted in 2015, the 2018 model comes in that sleek unmistakable GT design from the previous years with a little more polishing and a curvier appearance.
2018 Ford GT – Futuristic Design
To increase performance, the 2018 Ford GT is designed aerodynamically to minimize air drag and increase downforce. Its body has a very nice aerodynamic appearance that looks like it can slice through the air. To add on to that, its chassis and body panels are made from lightweight carbon fiber with some parts being made from aluminum. The wheels are forged from single pieces of aluminum and come in 20’’ by 8.5’’ for the front wheels and 20” by 11.5’’ for the rear wheels. These rims will be coated with Michelin sport tires for sport racing performance. The front and rear lamps will be LED with the front having daytime running LED lights and the tail lights integrating a heat extraction feature.
Some of the other performance specs of 2018 Ford GT include an inboard mounted torsion beam and push rod suspension. Its front and rear suspension will be independent with electronic damping. The front suspension will have a front lift system to increase ground clearance in bumpy roads. This system will be integrated to its Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve shock absorbers to enable this lifting feature. The GT will have 5 different driving modes (Normal, Wet, Sport, Race and V-Max) with 2 variable ground clearance settings. For stability, a speed activated rear wing that will act as an air brake.
Very modern Cabin
The interior on the 2018 Ford GT will be very modern, donning a mostly carbon fiber. The steering wheel will be similar to the one in the race car with several control buttons. Some of the fancy interior gadgets will include a 10.1-inch color LCD screen for the digital gauge cluster, a 6.5-inch center LCD display dedicated mostly for entertainment. This will be a touch screen which will have pinch to zoom and swiping functionalities. The entertainment system will have a voice recognition system for easier control using voice commands. The navigation system will also have a voice recognition system and will be voice activated.
Turbocharged Direct Injection V6 Engine
The 2018 Ford GT will be powered by a 647 horsepower 3.5 liters EcoBoost gasoline turbocharged direct injection V6 engine. This engine which will be mounted in the middle of the car. This engine, combined with a 7-speed dual clutch automated manual transmission will churn out a top speed of 216 mph and 550 lb-ft of torque which will be directed to the rear wheels of the car. Its EcoBoost engine will give it 11 mpg in the city, 18 in the highway and 14 combined.
Estimated Cost and Release Date
The 2018 Ford GT is estimated to cost about $ 450,000 for the standard features. This price is expected to be higher for the special edition versions namely the Ford GT Competition Series, ’66 Heritage Edition Shadow Black and ’66 Heritage Edition Matte Black. Its release date has however not been announced.
