Mazda 3 Gets New Gen SkyActiv Engines

The 2018 Mazda 3 gets new gen SkyActiv engines and taking fuel efficiency to the next level with their release of the SkyActiv technology. Six years ago, Mazda made headlines by debuting their first line of SkyActiv technologies. Which included engines, transmissions, bodies, and chassis that made their vehicles more economically and environmentally friendly. While the rest of the world’s automakers seem to be looking towards the more expensive electrical engines, Mazda is reaching out to the current customers with a new spin on the same cars everyone knows and loves. They are setting standards for modern traditional fuel engines, while still looking towards the future of the industry so far.

2018 Mazda 3 Gets New Gen SkyActiv Engines front

The current SkyActiv engines in Mazda vehicles claim to push the performance of internal combustion engines past the typical 30% of fuel energy harnessed so far. These newly engineered engines have a compression ratio of 14:1, the first of its kind in mass-produced engines. This gives each car an average of 15% more torque and 15% more fuel efficiency. They are lighter of bodies and redesigned compact transmissions add to the fuel-saving capabilities of the SkyActiv engine. Producing a more lightweight and better-balanced car. In the new 2018 generation of SkyActiv engines, the pressure ratio of the engine will be 18:1, adding another 30% more fuel efficiency.

2018 Mazda 3 Gets New Gen SkyActiv Engines – Technology

The next generation of SkyActiv engines will be using homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) technology. What this means is that the engines will no longer have spark plugs. But will instead use a different form of combustion. In an HCCI engine, the engine’s compression will be used to burn a mixture of air and fuel to get the engine started. Similar in theory to a diesel engine. Other automakers, like Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai, have attempted yet failed to make an HCCI engine. That is accessible to the general public. This engine will be a huge step forward for Mazda when it is released at the end of the year so far.

The HCCI technology is also designed to reduce exhaust emissions. Since the engine is using more of the fuel to power the car. Rather than the measly 30% in today’s cars, the extra fuel is actually used. Then burned off and released into the environment. With more of the fuel being used to propel the car forward you get not only better gas mileage. But a cleaner environment. The efficiency is set to give the new line of Mazda’s nearly 70 miles to the gallon, consuming only 3.3 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers.

2018 Mazda 3 Gets New Gen SkyActiv Engines – Release Date

In a yet unreleased date near the end of 2017, the Mazda 3 will get the new generation of SkyActiv engines. This hatchback compact is a commuter car loved by drivers around the world. And when it gets a facelift and a new engine at the end of the year it will be another hallmark success for the automaker so far. They are also set to release a line of electrical vehicles in 2019. Though there has been a little word on how exactly Mazda plans to develop those.
