After years of rumor and wishful speculations, next year we will finally get the opportunity to see the new 2019 Ford Ranger on the U.S. market. The model was discontinued in 2011 when Ford thought that it was time to pull the plug on the small and mid-size trucks. However, from 2015, the mid-size truck segment came back to life in big style.
When Chevrolet Colorado and models from Nissan and Toyota recorded unexpectedly big sale numbers. It seemed that every manufacturer wanted a piece of the cake. After all the big players entered the game, Ford wasn’t going to sit around and watch.
That was how the idea for the 2019 Ford Ranger was born. This model will fight for the supremacy in the mid-size truck segment with the likes of Chevrolet Colorado and the popular Toyota Tacoma, so let’s see what can we expect from this competitor.
2019 Ford Ranger – Exterior and Interior Redesign
The design of this new 2019 Ranger will be familiar because what we are expecting is actually an update but not a complete next generation design of the model. On the outside, it seems that Ford has decided to adapt the styling for the domestic market. The refreshed model will have a more aggressive look from his predecessor with tow hooks positioned in the front segment. The interior of the 2019 Ford Ranger will have a small infotainment system surrounded with multiple buttons, but the size of the touchscreen will be different depending on the trim.
2019 Ford Ranger – Engine and Performance
It is still not confirmed, but we should see a familiar face in 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four for the base model. Other powertrains for premium and sport models will probably be the 2.7-liter or 3.5-liter V-6s. As far as the cheaper models are concerned, they may be fitted with the naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V-6, and there is even the option of a 3.0-liter diesel variant. The less powerful models will get six-speed automatic and manual transmissions, but for the stronger ones, it will probably be the automatic unit with 10 speeds. It will probably be able to tow up to 7,000 pounds, but that will also depend on the engine.
Since this is just an update of the existing model. It will basically be based on the model that is sold overseas. This particular model was constructed in Australia but was offered to numerous other markets around the world. The platform is for now code-named T6, and it will of course be optimized for the U.S. market. It is still early days, but there have been rumors that in 2020. The U.S. market will get the SUV version of the 2019 Ford Ranger too.
2019 Ford Ranger – Price and Release Date
The production of the new Ford Ranger 2019 will probably start in the beginning of the next year at the Fords plant in Wayne, Michigan, and couple of months after that we can expect the full debut. Since this model has to attract customers away from the competition. Its price will have to be somewhere around the $25,000 mark if Ford plans to make a significant impact on the market.
